Settled within and bordering the Beautiful Ouachita National Forest,
LeFlore County contains some of the most scenic natural attractions in the state and region.
Poteau, our County Seat, is a lovely "progressive city" offering plenty of shopping, a hospital and extended medical community, and industrial development which have all combined to earn it the coveted inclusion as one of America's Top 100 small towns.
The town of Heavener is home to one of the most visited State Parks of Oklahoma, Heavener Runestone State Park. Two Recreational Lakes-Cedar Lake, with miles of equestrian trails, and Wister Lake State Park are both located within 15 miles of Heavener. They both offer great opportunities for swimming, camping, fishing, boating and hiking.
To the north is Spiro, home of the Spiro Mounds, and much new business and residential development just minutes from Fort Smith, Arkansas.
In the South of the county, Talimena Scenic Drive is part of a beautiful ribbon of highway through the Ouachita Mountains and has been designated a National Scenic Byway. This drive is a lovely departure back to nature any time of year.

LeFlore County's Public Schools serve students Pre-School age through 12th grade in an excellent school systems encouraging academic, artistic, athletic and personal advancement for all students.
For furthering educational opportunities within driving distance are Carl Albert State College, Kiamichi Technology Center, and the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith.
